Career and Technical Education (CTE)
Learning that Works
Career and Technical Education commonly known as CTE, refers to education that combines academic and technical skills with industry knowledge and the training needed to succeed in current and emerging professions. These courses offer students the opportunity to explore and prepare for post-secondary programs at four-year and two-year colleges and technical schools. Students can earn college credit and industry-recognized certifications.
Career and Technical Education provides important pathways to success and offers each student opportunities to personalize his or her education based on their career interests and unique learning needs.
Career and Technical Education courses at the middle school level provide students with the opportunity to begin introductory programs in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education, and health sciences. These introductory classes provide the foundation for additional elective choices in high school. All CTE courses available to BSD students meet the Career and Technical education credit requirements for graduation.
Industry Experts Needed
We are seeking engaged business professionals to join our CTE Program Advisory Committees. These committees are designed to meet state and federal guidelines for career and technical education programs and ensure that CTE programs are aligned with current industry needs and trends. The committees meet three times a year, with the first meeting on October 30, 2024, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Newport High School. We are delighted to offer you dinner and partner you with CTE teachers from across the district and other industry professionals who will provide guidance and advice for these programs.
We have 13 program advisory committees seeking members for the 2024-2025 school year. To understand the scope and content of our programs, please review our CTE programs and classes.
